As the crisp air of fall rolls in, so do new routines. Whether it’s the kids heading back to school, your own calendar filling with work projects, or simply the seasonal shift, September often feels like a fresh start. But with the excitement comes added stress, early mornings, and disrupted eating habits—all of which can throw your blood sugar out of balance.
At Planet Bake, we believe that indulgence and balance can go hand in hand. The secret? Building a morning routine that sets you up for steady energy, focus, and resilience throughout the day.
Why Blood Sugar Balance Matters This Season
When your blood sugar swings from high to low, you’re left feeling tired, irritable, and craving quick fixes (hello, sugary coffee drinks and vending machine snacks). But when you keep your glucose steady, you:
-
Maintain focus for school or work tasks
-
Reduce mid-afternoon energy crashes
-
Support long-term health and hormone balance
-
Make it easier to stick to nourishing habits
The fall season is an ideal time to reset—aligning your meals and routines with the goal of consistency.
Morning Routines That Work (and Last)
In our recent newsletter, How To Create A Happy And Workable Morning Routine, we shared the importance of starting small and staying consistent. Instead of aiming for a perfect morning, try building one “anchor” habit you know you can stick to:
-
Hydrate first: Begin your day with water and a pinch of electrolytes to rehydrate after sleep.
-
Protein early: A protein-rich breakfast curbs cravings later in the day. Pair eggs, Greek yogurt, or nut butter with a piece of fruit.
-
Move a little: Even a 10-minute walk or stretch can stabilize glucose before sitting at a desk.
-
Balance your treat: If you crave something sweet, make it work for you—not against you. (This is where Planet Bake donuts shine—sweetened with allulose for zero added sugar, so you can indulge without the spike and crash.)
Snack Smart: Apples & Donuts
Fall and apples go hand in hand. They’re crisp, naturally sweet, and loaded with fiber to help keep your blood sugar steady. Instead of the usual caramel apples or heavy pies, try pairing sliced apples with a swipe of almond butter. The fiber + healthy fats combo slows down glucose absorption, leaving you satisfied without the crash.
And if you’re feeling nostalgic, you may remember that back in 2022, we released our Apple Pie Filled Donuts, a customer favorite for the season. While they’re not on shelves this fall, we’ll show you how to recreate that cozy flavor at home with a super simple hack using our Vanilla Donuts.
Recipe: Apple Pie Donut Loaf (Allulose Sweetened)
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Tools: Pan, hand whisk, spatular, apple dicer, lemon press, loaf form.
Ingredients:
- 4 Planet Bake Vanilla Donuts (packaged)
- 2 medium apples, thinly diced (Honeycrisp or Gala work well)
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 cup Allulose Sweetener
- 1-2 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (taste test before adding 2 tablespoons)
- ¼ tsp all spice
- ¼ tsp ground clove
- 1 tablespoon Arrowroot Strach
- ¼ cup of cold water (for Arrowroot slurry and another for apples)
- pinch of salt
- vegan or low sugar vanilla ice cream (store bought)
Instructions:
-
Wash the apples well with baking soda or vegetable dish soapCut the apples into slices and remove the seeds
- Use a dicer and dice the apples into equal shapes (the smaller the better)
- Heat 1/4 cup of water inside the pan on the stove and add the apples to it and the pinch of salt.
- Cook the apples for 5 minutes and add all the spices and lemon juice, cook for another 10 minutes on low heat.
- Once the apples look done and lightly soft mix up the slurry (water and arrowroot) mix well and add to the hot apples. Mix in immediately into the liquid and mix with apples. The texture will get thicker and more texture.
- Turn off the heat and let it cool.
- You can caramelize some sliced apples on the side for garnish. We would use allulose powder for this and just dip the apple slice into the allulose before putting it on a flat pan to cook for 15 minutes (both sides).
Putting the loaf together:
- Now take the donuts out of the package and cut them into pieces, you can also use your hands and crumble them up. To do so take the donut pieces and rub/move them between your hand to get crumbles falling back into a bowl or kitchen board. You can also use a food processor if available.
- Take a loaf form and add about 1 inch crumbles onto the bottom of the loaf form.
- Take the warm apple mix from the pan and spread a 1/2 inch thick layer on top of the donut crumbles.
- Repeat step 2 and 3 again to have a total of 4 Layers. If you have more crumbles and apple cinnamon leftover you can repeat this again.
- Add your garnish and scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
Fall is all about rhythm, balancing cozy comfort with steady energy. By anchoring your mornings with hydration, protein, movement, and mindful treats, you’ll avoid the rollercoaster and move through your days with clarity and calm.
This season, fall into balance, and let Planet Bake be your ally in creating routines that are nourishing, workable, and joy-filled.
