Fertility Treatment Is Stressful Enough
8 small ways to make everyday wellness feel easier
Because taking care of yourself shouldn't become another thing you have to do perfectly.
Fertility treatment can make even the healthiest routines feel difficult.
There are appointments to schedule, medications to remember, workdays to rearrange, expenses to think about, and then the waiting. So much waiting.
During a process where many of the biggest decisions and outcomes are outside of your control, taking care of yourself can easily become another item on an already overwhelming to-do list.
It doesn't need to be.
Wellness during fertility treatment isn't about following a perfect diet, exercising every day, eliminating every indulgence, or somehow managing to never feel stressed. And reducing stress does not guarantee a particular fertility outcome.
Instead, think about wellness as finding small ways to make your everyday life feel a little more supportive.
Here are a few places to start.
1. Give Yourself Something Predictable Each Morning
Fertility treatment can make your calendar feel as though it belongs to someone else.
Bloodwork. Appointments. Medication times. Phone calls. Waiting for results.
A small morning ritual can create a little consistency when everything else feels unpredictable.
It doesn't have to be elaborate. Drink a glass of water when you wake up. Sit down for breakfast instead of eating while answering emails. Take your coffee outside for five minutes. Stretch before getting dressed.
The point isn't what you choose.
It's having one small part of the day that belongs to you.
2. Eat to Feel Nourished, Not to Be Perfect
Food can become surprisingly stressful when you're trying to conceive.
Suddenly you're wondering whether every ingredient is helping or hurting. You may find yourself searching online for the "perfect fertility diet" or feeling guilty about foods you used to enjoy without thinking twice.
There is no single food that determines the outcome of fertility treatment.
Instead of trying to eat perfectly, focus on building an overall pattern of nourishing foods: vegetables and fruits, whole grains, healthy fats, protein sources that work for you, and fiber-rich foods.
And yes, dessert can still have a place.
At Planet Bake, we don't believe wellness has to mean eliminating every food that brings you joy. We created our donuts around that idea: familiar, satisfying treats made without added sugar or sugar alcohols.
"A balanced lifestyle can include the salad and the donut."

3. Don't Let "Healthy" Become Another Source of Stress
There can be enormous pressure around fertility to do everything right.
Eat this. Avoid that. Take these supplements. Don't drink this. Exercise, but not too much. Sleep eight hours. Don't stress.
It can become exhausting.
Healthy habits are supposed to support your life, not make you afraid of living it.
If you miss a workout, order takeout, eat dessert at dinner, or spend a Sunday on the couch because you're exhausted, you haven't undone everything else you've done for yourself.
Consistency matters more than perfection.
4. Move Because It Feels Good
Your normal exercise routine may change during fertility treatment, particularly during certain stages of treatment.
Follow the activity recommendations from your fertility care team and listen to your body.
When appropriate, movement can be simple: a walk around the neighborhood, gentle stretching, yoga, swimming, or another activity your healthcare provider has cleared for you.
Exercise doesn't always have to be a workout.
Sometimes a 20-minute walk is enough.

5. Protect Your Sleep
Everything feels harder when you're exhausted.
Unfortunately, fertility treatment can also be exactly the time when falling asleep becomes difficult. Your mind starts replaying appointments, test results, timelines, finances, and a dozen unanswered questions the moment your head hits the pillow.
Try creating a small buffer between your day and bedtime.
Put your phone away a little earlier. Keep the bedroom cool. Read something completely unrelated to fertility. Listen to music. Make tea. Go to bed at roughly the same time when you can.
You don't need a perfect evening routine.
You need one that tells your brain: today is finished.

6. Give Yourself Permission to Stop Googling
There is an almost endless amount of fertility information online.
Some of it is useful. Some of it is questionable. And some of it can send you into a two-hour spiral at midnight.
Another person's experience isn't necessarily a prediction of yours.
It's okay to stop reading forums.
It's okay to mute fertility content on social media.
It's okay to tell a family member you don't want another article forwarded to you.
For medical questions, rely on your fertility care team and credible health sources. Protecting your mental space can be just as important as gathering information.
7. Keep Some Parts of Your Life Completely Unrelated to Fertility
When you're in treatment, fertility can slowly become the subject of everything.
What you're eating. Where you're going. Your calendar. Your conversations. Your finances. Your body.
Try to deliberately keep something that has nothing to do with it.
Go out for dinner. Watch a terrible movie. Plan a weekend away if your treatment schedule allows it. Cook something new. Meet a friend who makes you laugh.
And don't feel guilty about enjoying yourself.
You are allowed to have a life while you're going through something difficult.

8. Make Room for Comfort
Wellness culture sometimes makes comfort sound like something we need to earn.
We disagree.
Comfort can be a warm drink in the afternoon. Your favorite blanket. Dinner with your partner. Calling your best friend. Taking a nap. Or having something sweet simply because you want it.
Food has always been about more than nutrients. It can also be ritual, connection, celebration, and comfort.
That's part of why Planet Bake exists.
We wanted to create a different kind of sweet: something that could fit into a wellness-focused lifestyle without making dessert feel like a "cheat," a failure, or something you need to compensate for later.
Because taking care of yourself shouldn't require giving up every little thing that makes your day better.

Your Wellness Routine Doesn't Have to Be Perfect
Fertility treatment can involve a lot of uncertainty.
Your everyday habits don't need to add more pressure.
Eat foods that nourish you. Move in ways that feel good and that your care team considers appropriate. Protect your sleep. Step away from information when it becomes overwhelming. Ask for support. Enjoy dessert sometimes.
Most importantly, don't turn wellness into another test you feel you have to pass.
There is no perfect routine.
There are simply small choices you can make each day to help yourself feel cared for while you navigate whatever comes next.
And sometimes, that's enough.
